The city of Chester has a whole lot of history behind it, much of which is evident throughout, particularly in the old city walls and mediaeval centre. A great many visitors to the city enjoy its rich historic and cultural contributions but Chester also has some significant sporting history too, in Chester Racecourse, which since the beginning of the 16th century has hosted some popular and well attended horseracing events. As popular today as ever, Chester racing present all the culture and traditions of the city and of horse racing itself.

The oldest racecourse in the country, Chester also has the shortest track, at just over a mile in circumference over the left-handed circuit. The tight course makes for very exciting flat race fixtures and the highlight of the season is the Chester May Meeting, a 3 day event which draws crowds from near and far. Horses with a low draw can benefit from the shorter track and good starters have a distinct advantage.
The advantage for the racegoer to Chester is its convenient location, within easy walking distance of all the city centre attractions and amenities. It is easy to incorporate a day at Chester races into a short break or holiday in the city and with flat races held throughout the summer, from the May Festival to ten additional day and evening fixtures, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy some excellent hospitality and fun attending Chester racing.

There are plenty of options within the course too for racegoers, with no less than four standard ticketing options, corresponding to the four enclosures available. These are the Open Course, Dee Stand, Tattersalls Stand, and the County Stand Enclosure and while each has its own appeal for racegoers all provide great raceday atmosphere and plenty of scope to be right at the heart of the Chester racing action. |
The County Stand is the most exclusive enclosure and admission into this area permits the ticketholder access to all the public areas of the course including the Parade Ring, Paddock and Winners Enclosure. Views from the County Stand are also the best in the course, and overlook the final furlong to the finish line. A new Champagne Bar, situated within the Paddock Enclosure adds to the many existing food and drinks options available only to County Stand badge holders.
County Stand tickets are further characterised by two distinct options. Those with a concourse ticket may access the ground floor bars and dining outlets, including the Turf Restaurant, a superb fine dining facility which requires prior booking. Long Room tickets on the other hand permit the bearer to access the first floor undercover seating area which offers great viewing over the track and entire course.

Tattersalls Stand also has an undercover seating area on the first floor and standing area on the ground floor and is situated adjacent to the County Stand. There are plenty of betting, drinks and dining options including the popular Olive Press Restaurant. The Paddock Enclosure may be accessed by both County Stand and Tattersalls stand ticket holders, by crossing underneath the track. This option is also open to Dee Stand ticket holders who additionally have the facilities of the Dee Stand which presents an informal and social raceday experience. The Dee Stand also has tiered upper-floor seating and lower floor standing areas.

The Open Course, as the name suggests, refers to the entire centre area of the track and this is the ideal environment for informal racegoers and families to enjoy the best of Chester racing accompanied by a picnic. A range of betting, food and drinks outlets are available within the Open Course and there are large screens erected to catch all the best of the racing action.
All the different environments available at Chester mean racing is accessible by everyone whatever their tastes and budget. With long and fruitful associations with corporate hospitality too, a Chester raceday provides the ideal backdrop to business networking and corporate days out. A private box represents the ultimate in raceday exclusivity and these are available for entertaining between 10 and 50 guests. Situated within the County Stand, private boxes have all the best views over the course via a private balcony. Alternative options for between 24 and 40 persons are provided by Festival Chalets. Located by the side of the track along the final furlong, the chalets provide a unique Chester racing experience where the close proximity to the track allows for a close-up view of the horses as they thunder past and make the ground shake in the process.
To enjoy the benefits of a private box or chalet simply choose the best option for your group and then the appropriate hospitality package for your guests. Classic, Vintage, Premier, and Prestige hospitality packages are available. For smaller groups the best options are provided by the course restaurants and a restaurant package will ensure the racing is accompanied by superb dining.
Popular restaurants include the Mer Seafood Bar, Turf Restaurant, and the newest addition to the fine dining opportunities at Chester, 1539, a restaurant which celebrates the history of racing in the city with incredible menus in sumptuous surrounds and terrific race views from the restaurant windows.
